Previously, I’ve been engaging with more feminine outfits lately because I was more comfortable with tomboy clothing. It was also a dream of mine to wear feminine clothes in a comfortable manner. With tomboy clothing, I was accused of having a different gender, which was not often but sometimes it ruined my self-esteem. Alongside the journey of looking for other clothing styles- starting from top to bottom, I became more confident and accepting of myself.
In contrast to merely following trends or dressing in clothing that doesn’t suit your taste, selecting a fashion brand that complements your personal style is crucial because it enables you to express your uniqueness, feel secure in your attire, and present an image that accurately captures who you are.
How to Know your Personal Style?
Let’s introspect for a minute.
- What are your favourite colours?
- Do you have any favourites in two tones?
- Do you have a preference for patterns and textures?
- What kind of lifestyle do you have? (e.g., active, sporty, professional, creative, etc.)
- Do you have any advocacy or values regarding clothing? (e.g., sustainability, ethical production, supporting local business, etc.)
There are a lot of brands to choose from. With knowing these, we can narrow down the choices for you.
Now we do research, you may utilise online exploration from Google, Pinterest, Joseph Ribkoff Autrailia, or online e-commerce to get ideas on the clothing available. You may also use specific keywords like “minimalist outfit brands,” and “retro punk outfits” Moreover, you may also look onto other social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok to discover emerging brands and style influencers.
Of course, you may also explore offline by window shopping in malls. Sometimes, mannequins have an overall outfit already. It’s up to you if you think you’ll be confident wearing the matching clothes.
In evaluating which is the best brand, you can do extensive research and see
- What are their values and mission? See if they align with yours.
- Does the brand’s overall aesthetic- from colours, materials, and silhouette- resonate with your personal style?
- Does the brand reflect a variety of ages, ethnicities, and body types?
- How about the materials? Are they in their premium quality?
Sometimes, you cannot answer all of them right away. That is why it is better to engage them in social media too. Another step you can do is sign up for their email newsletters so you will never get FOMO when they have a new aesthetic or product.
Fashion could be a one-size-fits-all all. The trend is unpredictable sometimes. This means mean that you can wear the fashion brand or aesthetic you prefer. We are leaning towards a more inclusive society where we advocate body positivity. You just have to be confident and self-affirm that you look at them. Don’t be critical of yourself. Fashion should be an expression of your unique self, not a uniform. Play around and see what gives you comfort and confidence. Keep in mind that having genuine style means accepting your uniqueness and slaying it!
